Why is it advised to use a gold colored lure in murky water, and a silver lure in clear?

September 28, 2011

Shouldn’t it be the other way around? I would think seeing a silver lure in murky water would be easier than trying to see a golden one.

The reason it’s easier to see gold in murky water is because it has a higher natural reflective index than silver. Real silver is actually very reflective, only slightly less than gold. However, it’s reflectivity leans slightly farther into the less visible spectrum, causing it to lose the ability to penetrate equally as deep.

The other, more REALISTIC reason people believe this to be true is because almost all the "silver" you see on lures is actually chrome plating. It’s not truly silver. There are very few lures that use real silver. The chrome, while useful in most situations, has a very low reflective index, and looses the ability to reflect light rather quickly.

So, think of it this way: gold reflects about 98%, silver 92%, and chrome 65%.

If a dog’s toenail is bleeding, is a silver nitrate stick, Clotisol liquid, or styptic power better?

September 28, 2011

We accidentally quicked our Weim’s toenail last night, and it gushed blood everywhere (the vet was closed). Finally this morning I went to the vet and she let me have a few silver nitrate sticks to bring home to cauterize the nail. It worked like a charm.

bank ach department

I decided to order them online to have on hand, and I learned about two other remedies also: Clotisol liquid and styptic power. Does anyone have experience with these? I don’t know which to get of the three remedies. The nitrate sticks certainly did work. Home remedies such as flour and cornstarch did nothing, because he is a big dog with big nails.

After this incident, we will use a Dremmel on his nails, not clippers!

My thanks to anyone who can offer some info.
Thanks for the heads up on the dremmeling. If the dog is going to jerk his paw once in awhile, I’d rather he do it with a dremmel. With the clippers, once a chunk is off, it’s off. I am hoping a dremmel would do nothing more than nick, which you’d notice right away.

That said, last night was the first time in all our years with dogs that this has ever happened. Poor dog.
Shadow’s melon: answer is, you can still nick a dog’s toenail with a dremmel. But I think you have more control with a dremmel, which is why I’ll use it from now on.
I JUST NOTICED IN MY QUESTION IT SAYS "STYPTIC POWER". I MEANT "STYPTIC POWDER". Oops.

I’ve used all three of these products and they all have their good points.

The powder works well but can be messy. Sometimes it takes quite a bit to get the bleeding stopped as well. But it does work well.

The liquid also works OK but again, very messy! I’d take the liquid as a last resort.

Now the sticks are what I like! They work great, but sometimes they can sting a bit. Also, don’t let the tip of the sticks rub your own skin – this is because as soon as your skin is exposed to light it will blacken where the sticks rubbed and it’s next to impossible to get off. It doesn’t hurt anything, but it just looks bad.

Of these three, I like the sticks the best. They work quickly and are less messy than the other two.

Do you know the difference between colloidal silver and ionized colloidal silver?

September 28, 2011

ionized colloidal silver // argeria ?

Wrong answer.

Both are associated with argyria. Colloidal silver ingestion, perhaps more so, but do the research.

Go to Pubmed and type colloidal silver argyria (you will need the correct spelling!!): 18 results. And some case studies with other clinical manifestations other than a blue skin coloration alone, including degenerative effects, the first one here being an example:

Titanium vs. Gold, Silver and Platinum

September 24, 2011

Either you are buying it as a gift or for yourself, there are many reasons why titanium jewelry can be a better choice than jewelry made in traditional precious metals like gold, silver and platinum.

Firstly, titanium is highly corrosion resistant and therefore does not tarnish easily. Especially for high-polish finished jewelry like gold and silver wedding band rings, it is expected that the jewelry will lose its color and shine over time. Even if they are stored properly in jewelry boxes or safe, the oxygen in the air reacts with the metals and turns the color. This process is of course accelerated if the jewelry is worn daily because the sweat combined with body temperature, acts as catalysts to the chemical process.

Also, titanium is hypoallergenic, which means that very few people have skin that is sensitive to it. People who are allergic to gold, silver or, more commonly, nickel, which is found in most gold and silver jewelry, don’t have to worry about outbreak when wearing jewelry made from titanium and its alloys.

bank ach department

A widely known property about titanium is its durability. It is this attribute that makes it perfect for active individuals who frequently engage in outdoor activities, even water sports. It is not uncommon that people find their gold or silver jewelry damaged, or even lost, after a day of exciting outdoor events. These disappointments can easily be avoided if titanium jewelry is worn instead. In addition, titanium has a high strength to weight ratio. In other words, although it is much stronger than gold and silver jewelry, even steel, it is much lighter and hence more comfortable to wear.

Finally, it is fashionable and trendy to wear titanium jewelry. The metal is relatively new in the fashion industry with many new ideas being applied on it. Titanium is so versatile that it not only can be combined with gemstones, gold and silver, engraved and finished like traditional jewelry; it can also be anodized to create eye-catching colored titanium jewelry.

Common titanium jewelry includes wedding band ring, men’s titanium rings and men’s titanium bracelets. There is every reason to explore the vast possibilities and express your personality in a whole different way.

Bible Versus Quran Versus Sciences, (14) the Colors

September 24, 2011

One of the expanded dogmas of mankind is that the Quran is quoted or borrowed from the Bible. This creed is established upon studies of many prejudiced intellectual scholars

In this series of articles (1-14), it is obvious that the Quran is quite different from the Bible. It is also very clear that the Noble Quran preceded the sciences in many aspects.

In the present topic of the Colors, the smart reader will answer easily the fake dogmatic question: Is the Quran quoted from the Bible?

Before dealing with the topic of the Different Colors in Quran versus Bible versus sciences, it is essential to remember that the total words of the Bible are 788,280 while total words of the Quran are 77,473. It follows that, the Bible has the potential of more than 10 times the Quran to talk about the Different Colors word-wise.

The colors are mentioned eight times in the Bible and six times in the Quran.

The Colors in the Bible:

The first four verses talk about “Dark-colored lambs or animals”

Genesis 30:32

Let me go through all your flocks today and remove from them every speckled or spotted sheep, every dark-colored lamb and every spotted or speckled goat. They will be my wages.

Genesis 30:33

And my honesty will testify for me in the future, whenever you check on the wages you have paid me. Any goat in my possession that is not speckled or spotted, or any lamb that is not dark-colored, will be considered stolen.”

Genesis 30:35

That same day he removed all the male goats that were streaked or spotted, and all the speckled or spotted female goats (all that had white on them) and all the dark-colored lambs, and he placed them in the care of his sons.

Genesis 30:40

Jacob set apart the young of the flock by themselves, but made the rest face the streaked and dark-colored animals that belonged to Laban. Thus he made separate flocks for himself and did not put them with Laban’s animals.

The fifth verses talks about colorful garments.

Judges 5:30

‘Are they not finding and dividing the spoils: a girl or two for each man, colorful garments as plunder for Sisera, colorful garments embroidered, highly embroidered garments for my neck— all this as plunder?’

The sixth verse talks about stones of various colors

1 Chronicles 29:2

With all my resources I have provided for the temple of my God—gold for the gold work, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron and wood for the wood, as well as onyx for the settings, turquoise, stones of various colors, and all kinds of fine stone and marble—all of these in large quantities.

The seventh verse talks about Egyptian colored linens

Proverbs 7:16

I have covered my bed with colored linens from Egypt.

The eighth verse talks about an Eagle’s plumage of varied colors.

Ezekiel 17:3

Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: A great eagle with powerful wings, long feathers and full plumage of varied colors came to Lebanon. Taking hold of the top of a cedar,

That is all about the colors in the Bible.

The Colors in the Quran:

Surah 16:13

And the things on this earth which He has multiplied in varying colors (and qualities): verily in this a Sign for men who celebrate the praises of Allah (in gratitude).

This verse talks about everything on the Earth and their different colors and considers that these different colors are signs made by Allah the Almighty Creator for people who celebrate the praises of The Almighty Creator.

This deep meaning about the significance of the different colors is not found in the Bible.

Surah 16:69

Then to eat of all the produce (of the earth), and find with skill the spacious paths of its Lord: there issues from within their bodies a drink of varying colors, wherein is healing for men: verily in this is a Sign for those who give thought.

In this verse, Allah commanded the Bees to eat from the earth products, and then they manufacture for us a liquid of different colors that has healing effects.

Again, this sense is not present in the Bible.

In addition, the verse preceded the sciences in respect to the medical values of Bees’ products. See my articles: “Bible Versus Quran Versus Sciences Array (2) the Bees” and “Bible Versus Quran Versus Sciences, Array (3) the Honey”

Surah 30:22

And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the variations in your languages and your colors; verily in that are Signs for those who know.

This verse talks about the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the variations in man’s languages and colors. The verse considers these variations in man’s languages and colors as signs made by Allah the Almighty Creator for people who know.

Unfortunately, some intellectual people did not praise Allah for such signs but categorized human according to their colors and put down the black colored man.

How many crimes committed because of color discrimination!

Here again, this connotation is not found in the Bible.

Surah 35:27and 28

27] Seest thou not that Allah sends down rain from the sky? With it We then bring out produce of various colors. And in the mountains are tracts white and red, of various shades of color, and black intense in hue.

28] And so amongst men and crawling creatures and cattle, are they of various colors. Those truly fear Allah, among His Servants, who have knowledge: for Allah is Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving.

These two verse talk about the importance of the rain as regards to the earth products (the Plant kingdom) that have different colors. Also, the verses talk about the different colors of the mountains and the different colors of the animal kingdom. The verses say that these different colors are signs made by Allah the Almighty Creator for people who have knowledge.

bank ach department

The top of the knowledge is to know that Allah is Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving.

This global view and very deep meaning about the value variations of colors of all the creatures on the earth is not found in the Bible.

Surah 39:21

Seest thou not that Allah sends down rain from the sky, and leads it through springs in the earth? Then He causes to grow, therewith, produce of various colors: then it withers; thou wilt see it grow yellow; then He makes it dry up and crumble away. Truly, in this, is a Message of remembrance to men of understanding.

This verse describes our life in a real parable that we see it everyday. Our life is like the earth products, starts beautifully with different colors then withers gradually then dries up and crumbles away. This is our “limited” life on earth which is the preparatory stage to our “unlimited” afterlife.

It is really and truly “a Message of remembrance to men of understanding.”

Again, this very deep implication is not found in the Bible.

Now, I think it is easy to answer this forged doctrinaire question: Is the Quran quoted from the Bible?

Acne Treatment, Finally Some Facts

September 24, 2011

Acne is, perhaps, the single treated skin disorder and has been addressed in a wide variety of ways. Often the wisest step is to develop a program in consultation with a dermatologist or medical practitioner. Even with help, there may be a trial-and-error process in finding the right solution. There are also some solutions advised by alternative medicine practitioners of various sorts and we will also touch on them.

Some mild washing of the face may be useful. But vigorous and frequent washing is discouraged by dermatologists.

Topical creams may be helpful but overuse can lead to side effects and problems. One popular home treatment is salicylic acid, found in face washes and medicated facial pads. It curtails the hair follicles from shedding excess skin, which leads to the clogging of pores. Another home treatment is benzoyl peroxide, found in certain soap and face wash products, but also in topical creams. It can produce excessive drying and redness- so it is often recommended that one begin by trying it once a day and, then, if that works, try it twice. Results should be apparent after a few weeks.

In the world of orthodox medicine, there are various types of prescription medications and face washes. If you go to your local drugstore or supermarket, you can find lots of different products whose objective is to treat acne. None of these products produce instantaneous results and one part of a sensible prescription for treatment is patience.

Since some of these products may have side effects, you should know their contents and possible effects. Over-use of the wrong product can actually exaggerate the condition.

Experts generally think that acne is caused when an excess of oil, secreted by tiny glands surrounding the hair follicles combine with dead skins to clog the pores of the skin. Bacteria, chiefly Propionibacterium acnes or P. acnes develops in these pore pockets which leads to the blackheads, white heads and more common pimples that we associate with this unpleasant form.

Some of the prescription topical solutions include antibiotics. Antibiotics, along with azelaic acid can impede the development of the bacteria, reducing the ugly inflammation that characterizes acne.

Comedones, which are the compromised hair follicles, plugged with dead cells and sebum, that cause blackheads, which penetrate the surface of the skin, and whiteheads, which operate at semi-surface levels. They can actually be treated by retinoids, which are Vitamin-A like biochemical formulations, which actually help to unplug comedones, paving the way for topicals, including antibiotics, to enter into the follicles and do their damage.

Dermatologists sometimes use the newer retinoids to curtail further comedone development.

In the case of severer forms of acne, dermatologists may prescribe the less physically invasive route of oral medicine. Some common antibiotics, used to curb the development of the P. acnes bacteria and reduce inflammation are doxycycline, tetracycline and minocyclyine. The common topical, benzoyl peroxide, may be used with antibiotics such as sulfur, erythromycin or clindamycin. There can be disturbing side affects to antibiotics, depending on the drug and the individual’s sensitivity. Changes in skin color, an increased propensity for sunburns, dizziness, stomach problems can occur.

Tetracycline is contra- indicated in children and pregnant women. The antibiotic route must be taken with caution and with awareness of problems. Substances such as minocycline and tetracycline can even affect the potency of oral birth control methods.

In very serious cases of nodular or cystic acne that seems resistant to treatment, a dermatologist may prescribe isotretinoin or “Accutane,” a retinoid that might be taken once or twice a day for up to twenty weeks. Oil glands actually can be shrunk by Accutane and there is a marked effect on the growth of bacteria. Its great advantage is that it can prevent scarring and markedly disappears the acne in something like 90 per cent of patients.

The downside of isotretinoin is that it can cause birth defects in an unborn child if it imbibed by a pregnant woman. So woman undergoing this treatment often have two take several forms of birth control to make sure they don’t get pregnant while undergoing therapy.

Are there natural treatments for acne? Alternative medical practitioners recommend such substances as pantothenic acid, a B vitamin, said to combat stress, a factor that aggravates acne, grapeseed extracts and grapefruit seed extracts; various essential fatty acids like primrose or flax seed oil which can allegedly clear the pores of the skin, colloidal silver, said to be a powerful natural antibiotic; tea tree oil soap- whose main active constituent is tea tree oil, said to be made from a natural antibiotic.

5 Secrets to Healthy Skin Care

September 24, 2011

Here are five secrets for healthy skin care that I believe everyone should know.  Healthy skin care should not be a beauty secret.  There are many things that you could be doing every day to improve your skin’s health and appearance.  I believe that these are the “top five” beauty secrets for natural healthy skin care.

Secret #5—Use a Gentle Cleanser Every Day

Some beauty “experts” recommend the regular use of exfoliating scrubs.  On an occasional basis, that might be okay, as long as the ingredients are all natural.  Colloidal oatmeal, for example, makes a safe scrub.

bank ach department

Beware of Commercial Face Scrubs

But, on a daily basis, the act of gently massaging your face with a warm wet cloth and a gentle cleanser like tea tree oil or manuka honey will loosen dirt and dead cells, leaving your face looking and feeling fresh.  Most of the scrubs that you see on the market are too strong and rough, particularly when it comes to your face.  They can cause redness and irritation, which can have negative long-term effects on your skin’s health and appearance.  A healthy skin care routine is safe and gentle.

Secret #4—Always Moisturize after Cleansing

Whether you feel that your face is oily or dry, you need to moisturize after cleansing.  Even gentle cleansers remove the natural oils that protect the skin’s cells from damage and disease.  The moisturizer that you use should be free of artificial preservatives, fragrances and other additives.

A healthy skin care moisturizer should contain:
(1) Vitamin E, a natural preservative that is good for your skin’s health
(2) Coenzyme Q10, an antioxidant that is quickly depleted when your skin is       exposed to UV rays from the sun
(3) Grape seed oil
(4) Wakame kelp extracts, an old Japanese beauty secret.

Secret #3—Use a Night Cream

Before you go to bed, gently remove all of the makeup that you wore during the day.  If the moisturizer that you used in the morning contained grape seed oil, makeup removal will be easier, because it creates a film that prevents makeup and dirt from getting into the pores.

The healthy skin care cream that you use at night should contain avocado oil and Shea butter.  These natural oils are a little too heavy to use during the day, but they work perfectly at night, without leaving a greasy stain on your pillow.

/>

Secret #2—Use Common Sense in the Sun

I do not recommend the daily use of products that contain sunscreen, because some of them are known to damage DNA strands within the cells, which predisposes them to cancerous formation.  I do suggest that you use common sense.

If you expect to be out for more than 15 or 20 minutes, wear a hat, sunglasses and protective clothing.  If you are spending a day at the beach, use a broad spectrum 20+ sun-block that contains zinc oxide, the only sun-screening ingredient that has a proven safety record.

Secret #1—Protect Your Skin from the Affects of Time

If you’re like me, you don’t want your face to give away your age.  All of the healthy skin care products that you use should contain natural anti-aging ingredients.  The most effective is called CYNERGY TK.  It was a little difficult to find, but based on the results I got, it is well worth the effort. Make sure it is in your skin care products. – Margaret Bell
